About the Program

Our Observership Program will allow you to explore the world of Pathology at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center inside and out. Our residents, fellows and faculty are here to let you experience what its like to be a pathologist on our team. We have a wonderful group with trainees and faculty from all over the world. During this Observership you will review cases alongside of residents, fellows, faculty; learn your way around the lab and attend didactics. On the Thursday of your last week, you will give a short (15-20 minute) case presentation as part of the Surg Path Case Conference that week. We offer 2- 4 week observerships.

You are expected to be present between the hours of 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday.

Cost

$400 and this is non-refundable for a 2 week observership. This fee must be paid 2 weeks prior to starting your Observership and upon acceptance offer.

Eligibility

Completion of medical degree (MD, MBBS or equivalent) required. Passed USMLE Steps I and II. We do not assist with visas.  In order for you to have the most productive educational learning experience we recommend you be proficient in the English language.

Application Deadline

Please apply after the MATCH each academic year in March.

When completing the Observership applications, please indicate your preferred dates between August and December for the next academic year.

Please follow up via email and indicate if you are employed by UC or one of our affiliates.

Our rotations last 2-4 weeks.

If you did not take exams or it was pass/fail, applicants may write it in the space or put N/A.

There are two applications below.

On Appendix A of the UC Health observer form, you will only need to complete your name, email, date of birth, and phone number.

Grace will fill out the rest of Appendix A.

Applicants will complete Appendix B and C. (You will need to submit documentation for this)*We do not require the COVID-19 vaccine anymore.

The Flu vaccine is required under the months specified. 

Applicants will complete Appendix D.

Grace will complete Appendix E.

Applicants will complete Appendix F.

Appendix G is not applicable.

If Applicants do not submit all required documents, their application will be considered incomplete.

Applications, CVs, and supporting documents listed on the UC Health application must be submitted together.

Once you fill out the applications, email the supporting documents to Grace. 

All documentation must be submitted together in one email as a pdf. 

All applications must be submitted between March 18th and April 25th each year.

Our Observership committee will review applications by June 1st. We will notify those selected by June 15th

Accommodations: We do not provide any accommodations such as transportation, meals or housing.

Dress code: Observers must dress in a professional manner. Wear comfortable shoes. Scrubs are available in the department for your use.
