Gastrointestinal and Liver Fellowship

Welcome to the University of Cincinnati GI and Liver Fellowship webpage! Our one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship is designed to offer broad and rigorous training in all areas of GI and Liver pathology. Fellows will be primarily assigned to the GI and Liver services, but may tailor their fellowship according to their interests or perceived needs with up to eight, two-week blocks of elective time in any of the other Anatomic Pathology subspecialty areas (Breast, Genitourinary, Gynecology, Head and Neck, Lung/thoracic, Soft tissue, Hematopathology, Cytology, and Renal). 

Highlights

  • Friendly and collegial faculty that enjoy working with one another: three of the GI pathologists have worked with each other for over six years
  • Active liver transplantation, hepatobiliary, and pancreatic surgery team: >100 liver transplants and >100 Whipple resections per year
  • Fellows may tailor their fellowship according to their interest: up to eight two-week blocks of elective time
  • No overnight/weekend frozen section call – fellows participate in frozen sections for Whipple and bile duct resections when on liver service
  • Bi-weekly GI consensus conference
  • Fellow has their own office
  • 26 block schedule, with fellows on service two weeks at a time

Requirements

USMLE Step 3 passed, valid Ohio Medical License obtained, any visa needed obtained; completed at least 2 years of an AP/CP or AP-only Pathology residency program; passage of the Board examination in Anatomic Pathology would also be desirable.
Applications: Please include the CAP standardized fellowship application form, CV, personal statement, USMLE summary sheet for parts 1, 2, and 3, and AP/CP board certification (if applicable), and three letters of recommendation (one from Residency Program Director and two from attending pathologists who know the applicant well). International graduates must also submit a copy of a valid Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate.
