How to Apply
The Emergency Medicine Residency Program at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Our program is four years in length. We are currently approved for 14 residents per year.
The Department of Emergency Medicine participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) and our resident positions are available only through the NRMP. Any questions you may have should be directed to the NRMP (202-828-0676). Our NRMP program number is 1548110CO.
We accept applications through ERAS.
The application should include the Common Application Form (CAF), the MSPE, two letters of recommendation (at least one in the format of the “Standard Letter of Evaluation” from Emergency Medicine), USMLE scores, and personal statement. The application deadline is November 1. The Selection Committee utilizes the MSPE released on October 1 in order to make decisions on individual applications. As such, interview invitations are extended no earlier than mid- to late-October. All application decisions, including wait list invitations, are typically finalized by November 1. All correspondence regarding the status of your application is conducted by e-mail. Therefore, applicants should have a reliable e-mail address that is checked in a timely manner.
Exception for the 2020-2021 application cycle due to the COVID-19 epidemic: The application deadline is November 1. While there is still some uncertainty surrounding the timing of this unusual application cycle, we anticipate that interview invitations will be extended in mid-November with all application decisions finalized by November 30. We are only requiring 1 SLOE be submitted for this application cycle.
International Medical Graduates: In addition to the above materials, we also require:
- Graduation from medical school within the past two years
- Must have passed the CSA as well as Steps 1 and 2 of the USMLE
- Current ECFMG certification and eligible for a J-1 visa
