Welcome to the University of Cincinnati Ultrasound Fellowship program. We are pleased to offer a fellowship program embedded in one of the most prestigious and academically oriented emergency departments in the country. The fellowship is founded on the guiding principles of academic excellence, leadership, and clinical mastery. We strive to provide a comprehensive educational experience that prepares you to be a master of your craft and a leader in the field of emergency ultrasound. The UC Department of emergency medicine provides an unparalleled backdrop for your fellowship experience. With a historic and prestigious residency program that attracts top applicants, you will be surrounded by a cadre of excellent and dedicated educators. You will also have a collaborative and experienced research division with multiple NIH-funded researchers that can support your emergency ultrasound research endeavors. We offer a unique opportunity to develop ultrasound in advanced transport medicine as we carry ultrasound systems on our helicopters for Air Care. You will have opportunities for international travel and collaboration with a variety of sites for emergency ultrasound teaching.
Nationally recognized faculty in our department are leaders in many fields, and ultrasound is no exception. The faculty staff three emergency departments. The Emergency Department of the University of Cincinnati Medical Center is a Level I Trauma Center that sees 75,000 visits/year and is housed in the modern Center for Emergency Care, a state-of-the-art treatment facility for emergency patients. Our community site, West Chester Hospital (42,000 visits/year; 65% of direct admissions), is fast-paced, high-performing community emergency department that creates a well-rounded and diverse clinical experience. Our emergency departments see a combined volume of 147,500 patients annually.
We have two fellowship positions yearly for a one-year training experience that will prepare you to pass the Focused Practice Designation in Emergency Ultrasound. Our recent fellows have gone on to hold leadership positions in a variety of practice settings, from community emergency medicine to prestigious academic centers.
