The Division of Trauma works with general surgery traumatologists to offer aggressive management to the orthopaedic polytrauma patient. Our orthopaedic staff traumatologists provide the attending coverage for trauma call.
The core learning experience for residents in orthopaedic trauma is at University of Cincinnati Medical Center, a level 1 trauma center. Residents are on call every fourth night covering a busy service and rotate in three-month blocks throughout the five years of training, encountering a broad spectrum of acute and reconstructive musculoskeletal trauma as well as pelvic, spinal, and appendicular injuries.
Didactic conferences include weekly trauma rounds and a monthly conference for discussing basic trauma issues. In a hands-on laboratory, residents can practice with cadaveric workstations and saw bones.
