Pathobiology & Molecular Medicine

The PMM Graduate Programs bring together faculty, students, trainees, and research professionals from the Departments of Internal Medicine and Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, as well as numerous interdisciplinary centers and institutes across the College of Medicine. Through this collaborative environment, students are exposed to a broad range of biomedical research disciplines and are provided opportunities to engage in innovative, impactful research that advances the understanding, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of human disease.

Our programs are designed to provide rigorous academic preparation while fostering creativity, critical thinking, scientific integrity, and leadership. Students are encouraged to develop the technical, analytical, and professional skills necessary to become independent scientists and future leaders in academia, industry, government, healthcare, and biotechnology.

The mission of the Pathobiology and Molecular Medicine Graduate Programs is to educate and train the next generation of biomedical scientists through rigorous academic coursework, innovative research experiences, interdisciplinary collaboration, and professional development.

Who should apply?

Senior undergraduate students in the biological sciences (see pre-requisites) have an interest in applied medical science. However, the Program has also accepted medical doctors, medical laboratory technicians, and veterinarians wishing to pursue a research degree.

Duration of Study:

PhD students generally take five years to complete the program. During this time, the students receive a stipend of $38-40K/year, health insurance, and complete tuition remission.

MS students have the option to pursue a Thesis (two-year program) or Non-Thesis Track (one year program) of study. The master’s degree is completely self-funded.
