A new alumni-student mentorship program in the University of Cincinnati’s Master of Public Health (MPH) program is already making a strong impact on students in its first year. Designed to support students who may be navigating graduate school without established networks, the program pairs current MPH students with alumni working across diverse public health fields. Through these relationships, students gain academic guidance, career insight, professional networking opportunities, and increased confidence as they progress through the program.
The mentorship experience also benefits alumni, who are able to give back, support workforce development, and collaborate with students on research and applied public health projects. Early outcomes from the first cohort highlight meaningful connections, hands-on learning experiences, and expanded career pathways. Due to its success, the program is planned as an ongoing initiative, with regular mentor-mentee meetings and opportunities for reflection and celebration.
