Welcome

The Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences at the University of Cincinnati is committed to studying how environmental factors negatively impact human health, how to recognize and prevent these effects, and how to improve public health through clinical care and health care policy.

The department is part of the University of Cincinnati’s College of Medicine and is home to a dynamic, collaborative, and highly interactive faculty conducting bleeding-edge research and training the next generation of leaders in environmental science, occupational medicine, and public health. 

The department offers a variety of graduate programs, and a clinical fellowship, and is the home of pre-and post-doctoral training programs funded by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS).

Our interdisciplinary programs include approximately xx faculty and subject matter experts from multiple colleges at the University of Cincinnati, governmental agencies, including NIOSH, the Environmental Protection Agency, and multiple health departments in the region.

The impact of our research, education, and clinical programs is leading the way to effectively improve the health of our communities.

Alvaro Puga to receive UC honors

Four College of Medicine faculty will be among 18 University of Cincinnati faculty to be honored April 23 with awards for teaching, research, scholarship, creativity, entrepreneurship, faculty-student relations and career achievement at the 2020 All-University Faculty Awards Celebration.

Those recognized will be:

  • David Askew, PhD, professor, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, with the Mrs. A.B. “Dolly” Cohen Award for Excellence in Teaching;
  • Maria Espinola, PsyD, assistant professor, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience, with the Faculty Senate Exemplary Service to the University Award;
  • Chia-Ying Lin, PhD, Mary S. and Joseph S. Stern Jr. Endowed Chair in Musculoskeletal Research, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, with the Emerging Entrepreneurial Achievement Award; and
  • Alvaro Puga, PhD, professor, Department of Environmental Health, with the George Rieveschl Jr. Award for Distinguished Scientific Research.

The 2020 All-University Faculty Awards Celebration will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday, April 23 in Great Hall at Tangeman University Center and will be followed by a reception with appetizers and refreshments. Sponsored by the Office of the President, Provost Office and Faculty Senate, the event also will honor Fellows of the Graduate School and Academy of Fellows for Teaching and Learning inductees. All are welcome to attend.
