Mentoring in the Special Master's Program

Since we maintain a small class size, we are able to provide significant attention to each of our students. Each student is paired with both a faulty mentor in the Department of Pharmacology & Systems Physiology, and an alumni mentor who is currently attending medical school at the UC College of Medicine. Having both a faculty and alumni mentor available gives the student a place to turn for any concerns they may have during the very busy academic year.

Alumni-Student Mentoring

Once our class is finalized, we pair current UC medical students who have graduated our MS in Physiology program with incoming MS students. Our goal is to ensure that each student is able to address any questions they may have about anything on their mind, from school issues to social issues and anything in-between. Alumni mentors are a "safe" resource in that students can turn to, in the sense that they do not report to faculty or have any influence on grading or coursework. They can also help to find shadowing, volunteering, tutoring, and academic enrichment opportunities.

Faculty-Student Mentoring

All MS students are paired with a faculty mentor early on in the program to help guide personal and professional development. These faculty members will be available for advising, mentoring, and writing letters of recommendations for students in, or graduates of, the program when requested.

For more information or questions regarding faculty-student mentoring, please contact our Associate Director, Dr. Roger Worrell.
