The Special Master's Program in Physiology (SMP) is designed for college graduates looking to strengthen their academic credentials for US medical/dental schools. The curriculum is especially designed to be an immersive experience (see Program Comparison Chart). SMP students attend class lectures, participate in gross anatomy labs, and sit through the same exams as 1st-year UC Med students (M1)*. Our 1-year program is your opportunity to demonstrate your ability to handle the rigorous medical school curriculum.
The small class size (32-40 students) allows us to devote significant resources to each student. All students are assigned individual academic advisors as well as peer mentors currently at UC Med (M1/M2). These advisors serve as invaluable resources, helping you navigate the medical school curriculum.
Beginning with the Class of 2019, SMP graduates who have 1) successfully demonstrated their ability to handle the SMP curriculum (GPA in Medical blocks >B+, Graduate Courses >B) and 2) submitted an AMCAS application to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Medical School will be invited for a UC Med interview. This guaranteed interview is not only contingent upon SMP performance but students must also demonstrate that their conduct satisfies our high standards of professionalism. Students who interview with UC Med admissions during the SMP program year, are not eligible for the guaranteed interview after completion of the program.
*Changes to UC Med curriculum resulted in changes to the SMP curriculum. Beginning Fall 2024, SMP students will take 16 credits of medical coursework (SFOM, MSK).
