Eligibility Requirements for Federal Financial Aid
The eligibility requirements for federal financial aid are:
- Be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen (Permanent Resident) with a valid Social Security Number.
- Be in good academic standing and be making satisfactory progress toward a degree.
- Not be in default on any loan or owe a refund on any grant made under Title IV at any institution.
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit the application materials required by the Financial Aid Office.
The U.S. Department of Education classifies all medical students as independent and therefore does not require parental information on the FAFSA from students applying for federal aid (Direct Unsubsidized Stafford and Direct Graduate PLUS loans).
The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine does require parental information from all students applying for institutional aid in the form of need-based loans and scholarships.
