About the Program

The Neuromuscular Medicine Fellowship program is a one-year ACGME-accredited program designed to provide the fellow with expertise in the diagnosis and management of diverse neuromuscular disorders including motor neuron, peripheral nerve, neuromuscular junction, and muscle disorders.

During the year of training, the neuromuscular medicine fellow will:

  • Comprehensively evaluate outpatients and inpatients with all forms of motor neuron, peripheral nerve, neuromuscular junction and muscle disorders.
  • Acquire the skills to perform a comprehensive electrodiagnostic evaluation (EMG and nerve conduction studies).
  • Acquire the skills to perform single fiber EMG.
  • Perform EMG-guided chemodenervation.
  • Perform skin biopsies for the diagnosis of small fiber neuropathies and interpret autonomic testing.
  • Learn how to interpret peripheral nerve and muscle biopsies.
  • Learn nerve and muscle ultrasound.

Upon completion of the fellowship, the fellow will meet the training requirements for certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology-Neuromuscular Medicine and the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.

It is anticipated that one fellow will be enrolled in the Neuromuscular Medicine Fellowship annually and successfully complete the one-year program.
