Welcome and thank you for your interest in our program. UC Health’s West Chester Hospital Transitional Year in Family Medicine is the first of its kind at our institution. Our program seeks to instill clinical excellence into the subspecialists of tomorrow by providing a longitudinal clinical experience in Family Medicine, the primary care subspecialty that seeks to become the foundation of the American healthcare system.

Nathaniel Harris, MD, Program Director

Mission Statement and Program Aims

We seek to prepare trainees for advanced residency programs by providing a unique foundational exposure to general clinical medicine through perspective of Family Medicine, as well as medical school graduates who are trying to plan out their future careers while pursuing ongoing training.

This is accomplished by offering experiences in both the ambulatory and inpatient settings, as well as subspecialty electives. Residents pursuing non-surgical specialties like Radiology, Dermatology, Radiation Oncology, Anesthesia, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation should consider our program due to our medicine focused curriculum and longitudinal outpatient clinics.

Family Medicine is unique in that we care for children, adults, elderly, perform office procedures, as well as providing care in the inpatient and outpatient settings. Competency in such a broad scope will translate into a wide knowledge base and set graduates up for success in their advanced residency programs.
