Black Biomedical Graduates (BBG at CoM)

Mission Statement

We exist to establish a community for Black College of Medicine (CoM) Biomedical graduate students; to create a safe and authentic culture for Black students to openly and honestly assess their physical, mental, and emotional state; to plan events for students at the COM to engage with Black professionals in various fields to discuss and/or discover potential career opportunities and advocate for a larger presence of Black faculty members and increase representation at the COM.

Goals

  1. To establish a community for Black COM Biomedical graduate students (or individuals who racially identify as Black, African-American or are of African descent) within the College of Medicine (COM) to plan, develop and implement strategies to increase minority participation, presence and awareness campus wide.
  2. To create a safe and authentic culture for Black students to openly and honestly assess their physical, mental, and emotional state and gain the appropriate support as they navigate their time at the COM.
  3. To plan events for Black students at the COM to engage with Black professionals in various fields to discuss and/or discover potential career opportunities (This will not only help support students, but also compensate for the current lack of minority faculty present at COM)
  4. To advocate for a larger presence of Black faculty members and increase representation at the COM.
