Abdominal Imaging

The Abdominal Imaging Section is committed to excellence in clinical care, education, and research for the full array of imaging services for evaluation of the abdomen and pelvis, including the gastrointestinal and genitourinary tracts, hepatobiliary system, pancreas, and spleen. These services include radiography, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Clinical Specialized Exams:

The abdominal Imaging Section supports a wide variety of programs in the Health Alliance and University Hospital. These include the Level 1 Trauma Service and Transplantation Services at University Hospital, the Barrett Cancer Center, and the Pancreas Disease Center. The Section is closely aligned with the Advanced Image processing Laboratory, the only one of its kind in Cincinnati (see link on the radiology Home page). This laboratory allows us to perform state-of-the-art computer-rendered 3D analysis of the data sets generated by CT, MRI, and Ultrasound. Examples of subspecialized imaging services include:

  • 2D and 3D evaluation of potential liver and kidney transplant donors
  • Multiparametric Prostate MRI
  • Pre-operative and post-therapy evaluation of rectal cancer
  • Evaluation of Hepatic iron overload
  • Pre- and post-therapy evaluation of hepatic neoplasms for multimodality treatment (Surgery, SIRT, TACE, Tumor Ablation, Radiation Therapy
  • Maternal-Fetal imaging
