The Neurotology fellowship program is designed to prepare board-eligible or board-certified otolaryngologists for practice in academic otology/neurotology and to develop special expertise in the diagnosis and medical/surgical management of diseases and disorders relating to the following disciplines within otology/neurotology: auditory system, vestibular system, facial nerve, temporal bone/skull base structures and lesions of the cerebellopontine angle and lateral skull base.
During the fellowship, the individual will be exposed to all diagnostic areas of otology/neurotology. The Fellow is expected to become proficient in: audiologic testing, auditory brainstem response testing, electrocochleography, vestibular testing, and facial nerve testing. In addition to the routine testing procedures, the Fellow will become familiar with radiologic studies: CT scanning, magnetic resonance imaging, contrast-enhanced imaging, and angiography.
Upon completion of the Fellowship, the individual will have observed and assisted in otosclerosis, congenital ear disease, facial paralysis, acoustic tumor and glomus tumor surgery, as well as other skull base tumor, vertigo, and cochlear implantation surgery.
The goals and objectives of the Neurotology Training Program are to provide outstanding training to fellows in all aspects of the field, specifically:
Candidates who have completed an ACGME accredited residency in Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery are eligible for the match. Further selection for training is based on demonstrated excellence in research and a commitment to teaching. Candidates who are not planning a future in academic neurotology need not apply.
The Neurotology fellowship program is ACGME accredited.
