Orientation

You may ask yourself, "What happens after I match or accept a position in a University of Cincinnati College of Medicine/University of Cincinnati Medical Center training program?"

That's a great question! First, your program will be in contact with you as soon as their Main Residency NRMP Match Rules and Regulations allow with information about orientation for the hospital and for your program. Second, you will be required to go through orientation at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine/University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

All incoming residents and fellows who are coming from outside the UC Health system are required to attend one of our orientation sessions. Orientation is mandatory for all trainees.

We have divided orientation into two (2) sessions to accommodate residents and fellows who have obligations to complete prior training at another institution. Please take special note that most of our programs have a department orientation as well. Please contact your program directly for information.

UCMC Orientation will include a "Welcome" given by Paul Wojciechowski., MD, the Interim Designated Official for GME at UCMC/COM. Dr. Wojciechowski will touch upon the "Life of a Resident" and "What to Expect."

You will have safety training, learn of the many benefits UC Health has to offer, and meet the Office of GME staff who are here to assist you throughout your residency or fellowship.

There is a Communication Skills Conference given by Eric Warm, MD, the residency program director for internal medicine. Dr. Warm will guide you through the importance of communication between the patient, patient's family, and the physician. He will also speak about "End of Life" issues.
