Who We Are

The Perez-Tilve Research Group, based in the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology, and Neurobiology at the University of Cincinnati, is dedicated to advancing our understanding of how circulating signals interact with specific neural circuits in the brain to regulate energy balance. Our team brings together expertise in systems physiology, neurobiology, and metabolic disease, fostering a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.

Our Questions
  • How do hormonal and environmental signals influence the activity of the central neural circuits, and what is its role in maintaining energy balance?
  • What mechanisms allow neural circuits to regulate glucose and lipid metabolism in peripheral tissues?
  • Can G-protein-coupled receptor signaling pathways be leveraged to develop more effective therapies for metabolic diseases?
  • How can peptide-based therapies targeting incretin hormones be used to modulate neural circuits and treat obesity and diabetes?
Our Goals

Our mission is to advance knowledge in metabolic disease mechanisms and therapeutic development, while promoting professional growth and educational opportunities for all team members. We are committed to multidisciplinary collaboration, both within academia and with industry partners, to address the rising incidence of metabolic diseases and the need for better, safer treatments.
