The Addiction Sciences Division at UC and the Cincinnati VA Medical Center have a rich history of training Addiction Clinicians. Since 1997 we have hosted an ACGME-accredited Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship and an Addiction Research Fellowship designed to train physician leaders in addiction care.
To expand the opportunity to train clinicians from a variety of specialties, an Addiction Medicine Fellowship has received accreditation by ACGME to welcome fellows starting in July 2025.
We have one position annually for an Addiction Medicine Fellow. Fellows who complete their training will be able to sit for the Addiction Medicine Boards through the American Board of Preventive Medicine.
The UC Fellowship in Addiction Medicine will expand evidence-based, interdisciplinary care for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of substance use and substance use disorders by training the next generation of addiction medicine clinicians.
Fellows will spend time in diverse clinical settings caring for individuals with substance use disorders across the continuum of care, including 5 months on an addiction consult service at a tertiary hospital and 6 months in outpatient rotations, which include an opioid treatment program (OTP), UC-Addiction Sciences Division, Veteran Affairs Medical Center, and ASAP—Adolescent treatment program.
The UC Health Division of Addiction Sciences offers a research-rich environment with opportunities for fellow involvement. In addition, the program will provide opportunities for fellow development in medical education best practices
