Research Interests

Research in the Weiss lab has focused on the biology and biochemistry of bacterial toxins, with a special emphasis on Shiga toxin produced by E. coli O157:H7.  Recently we have developed a new experimental model, pluripotent stem cell “induced human intestinal organoids” (iHIOs), to study the pathogenic processes and host responses associated with the microbiome of commensal bacteria and pathogenic strains.  About 11% of people receiving chemotherapy develop blood stream inf...
