Research Overview

The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Cincinnati is deeply committed to its research mission. View the Department of Internal Medicine Annual Report (PDF).

Recognizing that high quality research activities enhance its clinical and education missions, faculty engage in basic and clinical research as well as translational research, known as the "bench to bedside" approach—translating basic science research discoveries into medical innovations.

This approach has sparked collaboration between many medical disciplines within the College of Medicine, the James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy, the College of Education, Criminal Justice and Human Services, faculty at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center and with other researchers in laboratories across the globe.

Today, UC is ranked as one of America's top public research universities for expenditures, according to the National Science Foundation.

Continuing the university's momentum to become a research powerhouse, many of our clinical and basic scientists have become internationally and nationally recognized for their expertise in:

  • AIDS
  • Blood Disorders
  • Bone Health
  • Cancer
  • Cardiovascular Health
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Diabetes and Obesity
  • Health Outcomes
  • Infectious Diseases
