Letter From the Chair:

It is our tremendous privilege to help people with cancer and their families. We appreciate the difficult times that people go through in dealing with this disease and our overriding objective is to provide superb care to every patient that we see.

Our intention is to maximize the chance of cure with as little physical and emotional trauma as possible. It is very important to us that patients maintain as much comfort and dignity as possible as we help them fight their disease.

We are more than happy to train the physicians, physicists and therapists of the future. We have two vibrant graduate educational programs, the UC Radiation Oncology Residency Training Program and the UC Graduate Program in MedicalPhysics. We train radiation therapists in the UC Radiation Therapy Technology Program. We frequently have UC medical students working with us.

As our traineesconstantly ask why treatments are being done a certain way, they help to ensure that treatments are being performed in an optimal fashion. Their spirit of inquiry and discovery leads to vital, collaborativeclinical research and improvements in our delivery of superb patient care.

We participate in multidisciplinary cancer research which helps us learn about previous, current and future treatments. This benefits our current and future patients. We have a wonderful atmosphere within our department where we are blessed to have talented, compassionate and enthusiastic personnel, excellent technology and a stimulating environment with a never-ending stream of bright, young, curious trainees who are always asking why and seeking excellence.

Sincerely,
