Schwinger Lectureship

Schwinger

The annual Schwinger Lectureship is named after Harold Schwinger, MD. Schwinger completed his undergraduate education at the University of Cincinnati and graduated from its College of Medicine in 1944.

Schwinger was an excellent clinical radiologist who practiced for more than 40 years in New York. During these years, he held numerous prestigious positions, many of them with the American College of Radiology (ACR).

In 1957, he became a Fellow of the ACR; he was vice president from 1975–1976 and served as chancellor from 1967–1973 and again from 1976–1981; from 1977–1979 he was chairman of the Board of Chancellors and was president of the ACR from 1979–1980. Schwinger was awarded the Gold Medal of the American College of Radiology in 1984.

Throughout his career, Schwinger was a champion for private, independent practice who defended radiology against its challenges.

In 1994, Schwinger established a fund to support a lectureship in the Department of Radiology at the University of Cincinnati. He died on Jan. 26, 1996. The most recent Schwinger Lectures were delivered in September, 2015.
