About Residency and Fellowship Training

Welcome to Graduate Medical Education (GME), a joint office between the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and the University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC).

Our principle mission is to maintain a healthy tripod upon which graduate medical education stands: accreditation, advocacy and advancement. Our charge is to support the scaffold of regulation that keeps each program thriving; to advocate for learners in their learning environment and to foster continued academic excellence and advancement at both the individual and institutional level.

We support 56-accredited residency and fellowship programs, providing a stimulating learning environment combined with our extensive primary and tertiary care facilities which offer a full range of patient care activities. Learners encounter a diverse population within inpatient and outpatient sites in and around Cincinnati that make up our learning environment. The GME office advocates for residents and fellows in monitoring and providing support for activities within the medical education programs under the guidelines of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the UC College of Medicine/UCMC policies.

Development of learners into adaptive experts is a fundamental driver of our mission. We challenge ourselves to meet our residents' and fellows' expectations for high quality learning experiences by providing the necessary foundation to maximize career potential and fulfill personal and professional goals in a supportive environment.
