Arnold P. Gold Foundation, is designed to recognize the important transition to third-year clinical rotations.
The ceremony celebrates this milestone while addressing some of the inherent challenges. There is an emphasis on the importance of practicing humanism in medicine and professionalism. Students recite the class Oath of Professionalism written during the White Coat Ceremony.
Faculty winners of the Gold and Silver Apples and the Optime Magistrum awardees are honored.
The Golden Apple Award was established in 1968 by the Pi Kappa Epsilon Fraternity to “foster better student-faculty relations through the recognition of outstanding educators in our medical community.”
Gold and Silver Apple winners are selected by popular vote based on students’ opinions of outstanding teaching.
The Optime Magistrum (or best teacher) awardees are chosen by the students at the conclusion of each course.
The ceremony takes place during the June Intersession, just prior to the first day on the wards.
