Preparation for the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine’s re-accreditation survey visit by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) is underway. The LCME is the official accrediting body for all United States and Canadian medical schools. This re-accreditation process involves a comprehensive data collection instrument (DCI), an institutional self-study and an independent student analysis (ISA). The self-study is approximately an 18-month process which will help us identify our strengths and challenges and formulate improvements for our medical education program. The process will culminate with an on-site visit/review by the LCME site survey team on October 20-23, 2019. 

The CoM views the re-accreditation process as an important opportunity for an in-depth review of and affords us an opportunity for members of our community to engage in thoughtful dialogue about our ongoing efforts to improve the quality of our medical educational program and ensure compliance with the LCME accreditation standards/elements. At this time numerous faculty, administrators and staff are actively gathering data for our institutional self-study. 

While our institutional self-study is underway, our medical students will be engaged in a parallel process of an ISA, the results of which will be incorporated into our LCME self-study review and provide vital information for future improvements to our medical education program.
