The UC College of Medicine offers an exciting graduate program in medical physics with a strong clinical emphasis,
awarding a Doctorate of Medical Physics (DMP) degree and preparing students for the American Board of Radiology
Physics exam. Founded in 1959, UC’s program is well established and ideally suited to those with a solid undergraduate background
in physics and desire to serve others as part of a health care team. The four-year program curriculum incorporates
three components: didactic course and laboratory work, clinical practicum and applied research project.
The four year DMP program is accredited by the Commission for the Accreditation of Medical Physics Educational
Programs (CAMPEP) and thus graduates of the program will qualify for entry into the American Board of Radiology
(ABR) Board Examination. The program will offer students the opportunity to train in therapeutic radiation oncology
physics, with plans to implement appropriate CAMPEP accredited training to qualify for certification in diagnostic
and nuclear medical physics in the near future.
As a medical physicist, you will contribute to the effectiveness of radiological imaging procedures by assuring
radiation safety and helping to develop improved imaging techniques (e.g., mammography CT, MR, ultrasound).
You will also contribute to development of therapeutic techniques (e.g., prostate implants, stereotactic
radiosurgery, and proton therapy), collaborate with radiation oncologists to design treatment plans, monitoring
equipment and procedures to ensure that cancer patients receive the prescribed dose of radiation to the correct
