Expert Psychiatric Services for a Variety of Stressors

UC Health Psychiatry provides general counseling services to adults, adolescents, children, couples and families who are experiencing emotional difficulties due to stress, behavioral problems, grief or a variety of other life events. We provide evaluation and diagnosis for each patient, along with treatment that can include psychological testing, counseling, psychopharmacology management and other various treatment options based on each individual’s unique situation.

Wide Range of Psychological Testing for Cognitive Disorders

At UC Health Psychiatry, we have several physicians committed to the care of patients with cognitive disorders as well as performing research to uncover underlying reasons for these conditions. Cognitive disorders relate to cognitive processes of the brain, such as memory and problem solving, and can range from Alzheimer’s disease and dementia to obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Unidentified and/or untreated cognitive disorders often are important factors in behavior and personality problems and in emotional distress, including depression and anxiety.

The Cognitive Disorders Center provides diagnostic and treatment services. A primary mission of the center is to provide comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations. Examples of conditions that might be evaluated include learning and attentional problems (in children, adolescents and adults), seizure disorder, head injury, stroke and age-related memory changes. In addition, we also provide treatment such as psychotherapy, cognitive remediation and lifestyle counseling, all of which can help improve effectiveness in functioning. In particular, we emphasize the importance of diet, physical activity and stress management for general and brain health.
