University of Cincinnati Department of Orthopaedic Surgery's Mission and Values

Values Statement

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Cincinnati is comprised of a diverse group of faculty, residents, and staff. Each provides valuable contributions to the department and to the care we provide to our patients. We value each other as equals—regardless of skin color, gender, religious affiliation, or sexual orientation. Each of us are an integral member of the team with a unique perspective and set of lived experiences that shape who we are. Most importantly, we strive to provide the highest quality care to our patients irrespective of their racial, religious, sexual orientation or economic background.

However, we recognize that the field of orthopaedic surgery lacks diversity and that more work must be done to ensure that our faculty, residents, and staff reflect both the patients we serve and the population at large.

The department has been at the forefront of the effort to reduce gender disparities in orthopaedic surgery. Nevertheless, this moment calls for us to do more. We pledge to recognize and address our implicit biases, to work to reduce racial and social inequities in healthcare, eliminate microaggressions in the workplace, and to redouble our efforts to build a more diverse and inclusive department.
