Cincinnati Med-Peds Residency Block Schedule

In July 2022 we instituted a 4+2 clinic block schedule for our residents while on inpatient internal medicine rotations. That means there are no ambulatory clinic experiences while on inpatient internal medicine rotations. These inpatient experiences are followed by a two-week clinic block with two to four half days of continuity clinic over a week (depending upon level of resident), other clinical experiences related to ambulatory medicine, one half-day for administrative time, and one wellness half-day over a two-week period.

Our pediatric categorical program still maintains a one half-day of clinic while on pediatric inpatient experiences, so our residents continue to have clinic while on those rotations.

We believe this model of ambulatory clinic schedule allows for parity with our categorical counterparts and allows for ease of scheduling, while at the same time provides an outstanding experience for our residents, excellent care for our patients, and promotes wellbeing for our residents.
