Quality Improvement Track

• Instruction in the practical application of improvement science philosophy and methods
• Participation in one large on-going quality improvement project
• Execution of a small scale project that includes problem identification, team building, identifying measures, conducting iterative cycles of change and assessment with scale-up for implementation.
• Enrollment in a 6-month Improvement science course at James Anderson Center for Healthcare Improvement at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital to become a leader in quality improvement and healthcare transformation

Research Tracks

• Availability of multiple basic science, translational and clinical research opportunities
• Option to enroll in a certificate course in ‘clinical and translational research’ during fellowship. If desired, credits earned can be applied to a Master’s degree after fellowship.
• Research opportunities in multiple common and rare lung diseases such as lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), Pulmonary Langerhans cell histiocytosis (PLCH), cystic fibrosis (CF), pulmonary innate immunity, immune function in COPD and cystic lung disease
• For interested fellows, extended protected research time (up to 12 months) can be provided

Med/Peds Pulmonary Track

• Combined fellowship with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC)
• Requires applications and contact with both UC and CCHMC

Critical Care Only Track for Internal Medicine Subspecialty Fellow Graduates

• Established in 2019, a one year critical care-only track is available for IM subspecialty fellowship graduates
• Opportunity for comprehensive critical care experience in our medical, cardiovascular, surgical and neurosurgical ICU's
• Enables fellow to combine their subspecialty expertise with critical care training
  
  

Our clinical versatility allows for an exposure to the entire breadth of pulmonary and critical care medicine.  Some of the highlights include: unique pulmonary pathology in our world renowned Rare Lung Disease clinic, cutting edge interventional pulmonology, high-acuity medical ICU, comprehensive critical care exposure in specialty ICUs (neurosurgical, surgical and cardiovascular) and in depth pulmonary physiology training in the UCMC and the Cincinnati VA Medical Center PFT labs.  In addition to individualized instruction while on clinical rotations, fellows can take advantage of our fellow centric didactics that run throughout the academic year.
