About the Program

The UC Hematology Oncology Fellowship Program provides fellows with clinical expertise in patient care as well as hands on clinical and transitional research, supplemented with structured didactic learning.  Our goal is to provide our fellows with the tools needed to develop their skills for a career of their choosing; whether that be a physician scientist track or a purely clinical track.

The UC Division of Hematology Oncology contributes to the management and care of hematology and oncology patients at the UC Cancer Institute, West Chester Medical Center, Cincinnati Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center and University of Cincinnati Medical Center, the only academic tertiary referral center in the Tristate.

The fellowship program training is divided into 2 phases.  The first 18 months of the fellows training (Phase 1), all fellows complete the fellowship training with clinical rotations in hematology and oncology.  In the second 18 months (Phase 2), the fellows can choose the experience of their choice. For instance, a fellow interested in basic research may choose to be in the lab a majority of the time or a fellow may choose to be in the outpatient clinics to prepare for a career in clinical practice.

During the phase 2 portion of their fellowship, fellows have an opportunity to complete a Certificate in Clinical and Translational research that will train them in various aspects of clinical research.  The fellows may eventually use these credits to obtain a Masters in Clinical and Translational Research.

We are proud to say that our fellows are among the top fellows in the country!  Recently, only 6 fellowship programs across the country scored higher than our fellows on the hematology and oncology in-training exams.
