Match Day is the culmination of four years of medical school, when students are matched to a hospital where they will receive their residency training in their desired specialty.
The National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) serves as a venue for matching the program preferences of students with those of residency program directors. The NRMP is a private, not-for-profit corporation established in 1952 to provide a uniform date of appointment to positions in graduate medical education.
On Match Day, the names are drawn at random. Each student trades a dollar for their Match Day letter and the money pot serves as a consolation prize for the very last student to be "matched." In addition, each student contributes a dollar to the IvaDean Scholarship Fund.
The 2019 Match Day celebration was held on Friday, March 15. Students gathered in Medical Sciences Building in Kresge Auditorium.
