Site Description
Since 1969, Lighthouse Youth Services has been a beacon of hope for abused and neglected children and for families in crisis.
Lighthouse provides residential care each day for more than 250 children in our foster homes, group homes, residential treatment
centers, supervised apartments, and other residential programs. The organization is made up of a number of programs including the
Lighthouse New Beginnings. This arm of the organization is a therapeutic group home setting for adolescent girls ages 11 through 17
who have been victims of physical and sexual abuse and/or have emotional and behavioral problems. Growing up in low-income communities
in sub-standard housing , most of the teenagers come from neglectful and abusive families. During the summer, the UHP intern works
with program staff to help these teens explore their future dreams and goals, and expose them to a variety of career choices and the
many educational/vocational opportunities available to them in our community. The Summer Enrichment program attempts to promote future
planning and goal setting skills and attitudes. UHP Interns will supervise teens on college tours and field trips to hospitals, factories,
the Newport Aquarium and the court house. The teens will observe what a career in medicine, nursing, marine biology, an attorney, or an
auto mechanic would look like. UHP Interns will plan educational and fun trips to various places, including the University of Cincinnati,
Cincinnati Technical Institute, and Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
