Site Description
The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated
to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering
from cancer. They achieve these goals through funding and conducting cancer research, implementing primary
cancer prevention programs, offering support and services to those affected, and serving as a political
advocate for national policies and regulations which benefit the patients and their families.
Job Description
The intern will...
- Better understand the practical and political issues surrounding cancer prevention and treatment.
- Focus on reaching children with the message of sun safety.
- Prepare presentations using ACS guidelines.
- Work on varying projects to get the message of sun safety out to the community.
- Record all information in a binder that will be left at the ACS.
- Dress business casual while in the office; however if they are giving talks at camp, they should
dress appropriately.
- Have use of a computer and phone at their workstation.
- Work M-F with flexible hours, depending on when they have scheduled their presentations.
Please note that the method of getting the message of sun safety out to the community varies year to year.
Past years have included summer camp programs and targeting pools to implement sun safe policies. The intern
must be flexible and willing to work on whatever project is decided on. The ACS will pay for and/or
provide all props and literature needed for the talks.
