How to Apply
The General Surgery Residency Program at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center will be offering six categorical positions for the academic year 2017-2018. There are no General Surgery preliminary positions offered. The surgical residency program at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), and adheres to the dates and deadlines set forth by the NRMP. All applications must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
- ERAS application – deadline is October 1, 2016.
- Personal statement.
- Three letters of recommendation including one letter from the Chairman of the Department of Surgery.
- USMLE Step I and II. To be competitive, a score of 230 and above on the USMLE Step I and Step II is desirable. Results of the USMLE Step II must be received by January 6, 2017, for the application to be considered.
- Dean’s letter.
ECFMG certification is not required at the time of application, but is required by the Match. The Department of Surgery at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center does not sponsor visas. No previous US experience is required.
Prospective participants are invited through ERAS. There is a reception on Tuesday evening with the current residents, which is mandatory. On interview day (Wednesday), each candidate meets with the Chair of Surgery, Program Director, and two additional faculty.
