For how long am I covered?

Students can be covered for a full Plan year (August to August).  Because eligibility for coverage is determined by the registration status of students, if students remain registered for the minimum required  number of credit hours (undergraduates, 6 credit hours and/or Co-op and graduates, 1 credit hour) for fall semester and spring semester each, they are eligible for coverage for the entire Plan year.  Spring semester coverage automatically extends through the summer with no additional premium due and no credit hour requirement. Premiums are to be paid both fall semester and spring semester.

What if I am currently covered by my parent’s, my spouse’s, or my own insurance?

Students who are currently enrolled in a health insurance plans that are equal to or better than the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (see insurance policy requirements after logging in at https://webapps.uc.edu/onestop/studentlogin.aspx?target=waiver) may waive UC Student Health Insurance by submitting an on-line waiver by the deadline.  All waivers must be received by the deadline.  Students are encouraged to carefully review their policies with their parents or partners.  Listed below are some examples of situations in which students may either find that they are not covered or may experience unforeseen changes in their policies.

If students reach a maximum age limit, they may not be covered under  their parent's health insurance policy.

If students are covered under individual policies and in some cases, employer-based policies, they may experience monetary changes during this period of changes in the health insurance industry.

Provider networks arranged by insurance companies may not include the University Health Services.
