Conferences: Basic Science
Basic Science Conference is held weekly and is led by Dr. Kenter. At the beginning of each academic year, residents are provided with either the AAOS textbook Orthopaedic Basic Science or Orthopaedic Knowledge Update, a schedule of assigned chapters to be read weekly, and a list of residents who are responsible for preparing a 10-question quiz pertaining to the weekly reading assignment.
Quizzes are taken every week and the resident with the highest average score from all of the quizzes is presented with the Freiberg Basic Science Award at the Annual D.J. Frank Lectureship. Many of the basic science topics are integrated into the sub-specialty conferences.
Examples include:
- bone healing and physiology in Trauma
- biomaterials and biomechanics in Reconstruction
- ligament and cartilage physiology in Sports
- tendon/nerve physiology in Hand
