Department of

Obstetrics and Gynecology

Director's Welcome

The Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) appreciates your interest in our division. Our fellowship-trained subspecialists and MFM fellows in training care for a variety of complex maternal and fetal conditions that complicate the health and well being of mothers and the unborn children.

Our division supports consultative services at several regional hospitals and provides primary high-risk and diagnostic services for UC Health University of Cincinnati. Additionally, our division members are active clinical faculty at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. We support the Fetal Care Center at that location.

Our division is intrinsically involved in the education of medical students, fellows, resident physicians and other health professionals. Our Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship is an ABOG-approved fellowship and actively promotes the subspecialty training of MFM physicians.

Our division members are faculty in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Some of our members are also academically trained in medical research and epidemiology, critical care obstetrics and addiction medicine. We actively provide MFM education for local, regional and national venues.

Division members actively participate in clinical, basic and translational research. Partnership with medical basic scientists at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine has resulted in multiple active research endeavors and publications. We feel that medical research benefits both the individual patient and society as a whole.

Clinical services include the aforementioned Fetal Care collaborative effort, an active Diabetes in Pregnancy program (DAPP) prenatal diagnosis and ultrasound unit and medical complications care unit. Our inpatient care team manages maternal pregnancy related complications of pregnancy that necessitate hospitalization, acute care services or delivery.

We actively manage maternal transports from outlying hospitals and provide consultative or advice-based care to our community OB-GYN physician partners.

To a person, each of us loves our job! We are grateful for the immense satisfaction we get from helping to take care of our patients and teach those we’ve been entrusted to teach.

We consider it a privilege to practice our subspecialty. Please let us know if we can be of service to you or yours.

Sincerely,

James Van Hook, MD
