Department of

Neurosurgery

Fellowship Programs

NOTICE: The RRC has mandated that beginning in July 2013 all neurosurgery residency programs must be 7 years in length. As we work to add another year into our curriculum as well as give our residents the best possible training, we are placing several fellowships on hold.

Fellowships which are currently on hold:

  • Cerebrovascular
  • Endovascular
  • Functional & Stereotactic Fellowship
  • Skull Base
  • Spine
  • Surgical Neuro-oncology

Fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis. All fellowship candidates must provide three letters of recommendation and complete an interview with members of the neurosurgery faculty.

Goals & Objectives

The primary objective of the fellowship is to enhance knowledge and experience in the breadth of neurosurgical disease and operative treatments through exposure to the extensive clinical material and educational forums of the UC Department of Neurosurgery and allied services.

Licensure/Examination

Fellows must meet the requirements to obtain a Training Certificate from the Ohio State Medical Board. This includes passing Steps 1 and 2 of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE). Foreign medical graduates must have a valid ECFMG certification. UC accepts J-1 (ECFMG sponsored) and H1B visas.

Duration of Fellowship

The duration of the fellowship is expected to be one to two years. The fellowship is subject to annual renewal based on satisfactory performance and achievement of the programmatic goals and objectives.

Performance Evaluation

Performance assessment of fellows is carried out biannually by the faculty in charge of rotation services. Overall performance and acquisition of basic competencies are assessed, and timely feedback is provided to each fellow.

Application

To apply for any of our fellowships, please complete this application and forward it, along with a current CV and three letters of recommendation, to our program coordinator.
