Welcome to the Cincinnati Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP), a multi-institutional MD/PhD program run by theUniversity of Cincinnati College of Medicine (UCCOM) and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC). Physician-scientists are a remarkably successful group of individuals, comprising only 2.5% of medical school graduates, yet holding half of all NIH grants to physicians. Our program develops individuals who truly make a difference in patient outcomes through bench to bedside research.
The MSTP combines the breadth of medical school coursework with the depth and rigor of graduate training in one of ten PhD programs. Our graduates consistently match at top residency and fellowship programs nationwide, and Cincinnati MSTP alumni include department chairs, center directors, and faculty members at leading medical schools.
The University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children's Hospital share a rich history of cutting-edge advances in medicine, including the development of the Sabin oral polio vaccine, the antihistamine Benadryl, and the first functional heart-lung machine. In 2013, Cincinnati Children's Hospital was ranked #3 nationally in pediatrics, and #1 in pediatric cancer care. Together, our two institutions provide outstanding opportunities for training tomorrow's leaders in academic medicine.
