Students Shave for St. Baldrick's March 24

Students Shave for St. Baldrick's March 24

Published: 3/22/2017

UC students will shave their heads in support of childhood cancer research during the annual St. Baldrick's Celebration, to be held at 8 p.m. Friday, March 24, at Molly Malone's pub, 112 E. 4th Street, Covington, Ky.

Organized locally by the College of Medicine pediatrics club, St. Baldrick's Day (named for "St. Patrick’s Day" and "bald") events are held worldwide to raise money for childhood cancer research.

Students will hold a baked goods, raffle and T-shirt sale event from 12-1 p.m. Thursday and Friday, March 23 and 24, in CARE Crawley Atrium, to raise funds for the effort. You can assist by visiting for details and consider contributing to this cause by:
  • Pledge to shave your head at this event in solidarity with children fighting cancer
  • Pledge to cut and donate 8-12 inches of your hair to be used to make a wig for a cancer patient
  • Support those shaving/donating and enjoy food, music and raffles by attending the Molly Malone’s pub gathering.
If the club raises $13,000, Bruce Giffin, PhD, associate dean for medical education, has pledged to shave his mustache. As of Wednesday, March 22, the event has raised $5,200.  While med students are leading the charge, others from across the UC campus are also participating.

At Interview Day, I felt like they rolled out the red carpet, and then I came back for Second Look, and it’s still the same—it’s not an act. I am getting to know more people and starting to feel more at home. UC really has a great community and everything I need to really excel.”
