Undergraduate Program in Medical Sciences

International Opportunities

With the rigorous, structured curriculum of the Medical Sciences major, it can be difficult for students to spend an entire semester or year studying abroad. However, students can still experience other countries and continents first-hand through experiential learning opportunities.

Medical Sciences students who are planning to participate in an international experience should contact Dr. Jason Blackard with the College of Medicine as well as Luis Santiago, the Medical Sciences liaison to UC International.

College of Medicine - Public Health Focus

The College of Medicine Office of Global Health offers several public health focused courses that involve international travel. Taught by College of Medicine faculty member Dr. Jason Blackard, these courses are offered as electives in the Medical Sciences Program. Courses include:

  • MEDS 4050: Public Health and Infectious Diseases in Southern Africa (Botswana & South Africa)
  • MEDS 4052: Medicine and Public Health at Chongqing Medical University (China)
  • MEDS 4054: Exploring Public Health in Ghana
