Policy and Guidelines for Industry Relationships

The College of Medicine has developed a Policy and Guidelines for Industry Relationships. This policy is applicable to all College of Medicine personnel. While recognizing that interactions with industry occur in a variety of contexts and that such interactions can be positive and important for promoting the educational, clinical and research missions of the College of Medicine, we all must adhere to the highest ethical standards. We must ensure that patient care, our research programs, the integrity of our education and training programs, and the reputation of the College of Medicine, are not compromised by conflicts of interest.

I appreciate the work of everyone who has participated in the development and implementation of these guidelines. This is an evolving process and the Industry Interactions Committee will guide us with respect to implementation, education, and further modifications should they be necessary.

The Policy and Frequently Asked Questions have been provided in an effort to guide College of Medicine personnel in their interactions with Industry. The Industry Interactions Committee serves, in part, by providing support to the College of Medicine in interpretation of the policy. After careful review of the policy and Frequently Asked Questions, should you have questions regarding policy interpretation or application, please email your questions to the Industry Interactions Committee. An email link will be available on the FAQ webpage. This information will be reviewed by the committee, and if necessary, appropriate clarifications or FAQs will be constructed to aide in policy interpretation.

Thank you for your cooperation in this important matter.

Sincerely,

David M. Stern, MD
Vice President for Health Affairs and
Dean, College of Medicine

If there are further questions after review of the Policy and Frequently Asked Questions, please email your specific question to the Industry Interactions Committee. The committee will review questions and clarify FAQs as needed.
