Communities Actively Researching Exposure Study: CARES

The University of Cincinnati has partnered with three communities in or near Eastern Ohio to address the community-driven question: Does air pollution affect our children’s health?

The goal of the study is to understand the effects of air pollution on children’s health.

The study originally recruited children ages 7-9 in Washington, Guernsey, Columbiana Counties, Ohio, Wood and Hancock Counties, West Virginia, and Beaver County, Pennsylvania. Now, the CARES2 study will ask the same children ages 13-17 to return for further participation in the study. The CARES2 study will involve several new activities that will test children's verbal, special, and academic skills.
