About The Risk Science Center

Vision:  Improved public health though applied risk science

Mission Statement:  To develop and apply cutting edge environmental and occupational risk assessment science that furthers engagement, education, and decision-making for public health protection.

Specific Objectives:

  • Provide risk science support on emerging environmental, occupational, and public health issues through integrated and multidisciplinary research.
  • Proactively engage other researchers and diverse stakeholders to facilitate the translation of exploratory science results to health risk problems.
  • Educate and train students and practicing scientists through instruction, cooperative learning, mentoring, and continuing education.
  • Support collaborative activities that enhance our society’s ability to most effectively resolve environmental, occupational, and public health problems.

History

In 2015, Toxicology Excellence for Risk Assessment (TERA) staff joined the University of Cincinnati. TERA was formed as a non-profit corporation dedicated to the best use of toxicity data for risk assessment. TERA was founded in 1995 by Dr. Michael Dourson, a board-certified toxicologist with 15 years experience working for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
