Department of

Cancer Biology

Program Requirements

Undergraduate preparation should include courses in biology, chemistry and physics.

All applicants must take the GRE (Graduate Record Examination) General Tests. Please send your scores to us by choosing University of Cincinnati (Institutional Code R1833). Please feel free to "skip" the Departmental Code as it is not required. There is no minimum required score on the GRE for the Graduate Program.

International applicants must also take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). The TOEFL is required regardless of the status of a U.S. degree for all international students. The Educational Testing Services (ETS) has been implementing a new Internet-based TOEFL test (referred to as TOEFL iBT). The TOEFL iBT includes a section on spoken English. If the new TOEFL iBT is not yet available in your area, it will be necessary to also take the Test of Spoken English (TSE). Please consult the ETS at Ets.org for availability of the TOEFL iBT in your area.

*If the new TOEFL iBT is available in your area, it will not be necessary to also take the TSE. If the TOEFL iBT is not yet available to you, it will be necessary for you to take the current TOEFL and TSE.

We base our evaluation on a combination of criteria including your answers to questions posed in the application, letters of reference, graduate record examination scores and grade point average. We encourage you to visit us, if at all possible.
