Affiliated Graduate Programs

In addition to the PhD and Graduate Certificate degrees offered by the UC College of Medicine in partnership with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, the following UC programs also offer focused training in informatics topics:

  • PhD in Computer Science and Engineering, Bioinformatics Track

    The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati hosts the PhD in Computer Science and Engineering, Bioinformatics Track program. It allows students to interact closely with nationally recognized scientists in the Division of Biomedical Informatics at Cincinnati Children's Medical Center and UC's Department of Environmental Health. Through course work and collaboration with our faculty, students develop expertise in the relevant domains of mathematics, statistics, computational science, basic biology, molecular biology, and biomedicine.

  • PhD in Systems Biology

    Systems Biology and Physiology at UC is an interdisciplinary graduate program comprising faculty and staff from 18 departments within the Colleges of Medicine, Engineering, and Arts and Sciences. Research efforts focus on a wide array of biomedical topics from trying to understand normal and pathological function to development of new experimental tools and technologies. Program participants are encouraged to embrace multi-faceted experimental approaches, making full use of the world class laboratory, computational, and clinical infrastructures available at UC. The program is focused on five interrelated areas of excellence: Biocomplexity, dynamic function, intravital imaging, model systems, and translational physiology.

  • PhD in Biostatistics, Big Data Track

    The UC Department of Environmental Health in partnership with the College of Medicine, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and the Division of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics hosts the Big Data Biostatistics (Environmental Health) program. The biomedical research enterprise is increasingly becoming data-intensive and data-driven. Massive streams of data are being generated to interrogate biological systems and improve health care. Biomedical Big Data (BBD) is characterized by high dimensionality, complexity and diversity. It has become abundantly clear that effective statistical methodologies are essential for processing, analyzing and mining BBD. The Big Data Biostatistics program aims to train the next generation of data scientists, addressing regional and national demands for experts in statistical methods for BBD analysis.

  • Master of Science in Clinical and Translational Research, Clinical and Translational Research Informatics Tracks

    The UC Department of Environmental Health in partnership with the Center for Clinical & Translational Science & Training hosts the Master of Science in Clinical and Translational Research. Its two tracks in Research Informatics are designed to provide clinical professionals (physicians, nurses and other terminal degree clinical professionals) with the necessary preparation for successful career development and independent investigator awards.  The translational research informatics track focuses on the translation of basic science findings to clinical research studies. The clinical research informatics track focuses on the translation of research findings into clinical and community practice.

  • Master of Health Informatics Program, College of Allied Health Sciences
    The College of Allied Health Sciences in partnership with the Lindner College of Business Information Systems and Analytics department hosts the online Master of Health Informatics Program, featuring an applicable curriculum designed to ensure real-world relevance. Courses are designed to provide a balance of healthcare, IT/IS, health data analytics and leadership development.
