For over 20 years, the UC Department of Anesthesiology has had an active research program emphasizing both clinical and basic science aspects of anesthesia. We are currently ranked 26th among anesthesiology departments in annual NIH funding.
The Department of Anesthesiology at University of Cincinnati has over 2,500 square feet of lab space dedicated to anesthesia/pain research. The main laboratory in the Medical Sciences Building is the site where most basic research such as electro-physiological experiments, immunohistochemistry, cytokine measurements, PCR, Western blotting, genotyping, and data analysis are conducted. It is fully equipped for this purpose.
One room next to the main laboratory is used for surgical procedures and animal behavioral testing. In addition, several research core facilities (e.g., imaging core, transgenic animal core, etc.) are available to the faculty and students on the campus of University of Cincinnati.
