Quest for Vision

The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine's Department of Ophthalmology has the potential to be at the forefront of clinical research of ocular disorders such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, corneal degeneration and more. Quest for Vision seeks to provide support for research, teaching and patient care.
The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine's Department of Ophthalmology has a well-deserved reputation for providing high-quality medical and surgical care to patients with ocular disorders and for training medical students and physicians about disorders of the eyes. As a leader in ophthalmology, the department has the potential to be at the forefront of clinical research into ocular disorders. The department needs to recruit and retain highly trained and strongly motivated physicians with interests in performing clinical research studies.
Decreasing support for education from state and federal sources and decreasing reimbursement for patient care has given the department an uncertain future. If current funding trends continue, the future of the current program of teaching and patient care is in jeopardy - and the center for research will not be a possibility.
The Quest for Vision Campaign hopes to raise $10 million in funds for recruiting and retaining well-trained clinician-researchers committed to clinical studies related to vision-impairing disorders. A secondary goal of the initiative is to develop departmental resources to support clinical research, acquisition of research-related equipment and research development.
